Debra Lohrere is an Award Winning Australian artist. She was born in Warragul Victoria, Australia in 1962. She moved to Queensland in 2004 and now works out of her studio at Redbank Plains. She is a member of the Ipswich Art Society. Debra has been painting since she was 14, selling her first painting at the age of 16.
She studied as a teenager at the Alexander Art Gallery under Aubrey Hinchcliffe and Marlene Leary, winning an Honour Certificate at the Dandenong Youth Show at age 17.
Her works vary in subject matter and colour. Her object as an artist is to communicate the emotional responses that she feels in response to the scenes she is capturing. She wants to portray the wonder, awe or pleasure that she feels as she observes and responds to the beauty of nature. She loves to capture the Australian outback and seascapes in her artworks as well as the beautiful Australian sunsets.
Debra loves to show colour and contrast in her subject matter. She works in both the impressionist and abstract genres. Her main aim is to capture Australia on canvas as she sees it through her eyes as an artist.
Her favourite master artists are Tom Roberts, Constable, Rembrandt, McCubbin and Darcy Doyle.
